There is a particular kind of attention that a wedding brings to a suit. Cameras catch it from the front during the ceremony and from behind at the altar. Then they follow it around the dance floor, and a good photographer will close in on the cuffs and lapels. However, under that scrutiny, a suit that would pass unnoticed in a boardroom shows every hanger mark and box crease. The good news is that a suit is far easier to prepare than a gown. It simply needs proper pressing rather than a domestic iron the night before. In Sydney, Luxe handles wedding suit dry cleaning as a pickup and delivery service, so nobody has to drive anywhere. In practice, the right pickup a week out, and another in the week after, does most of the work.

New suits arrive creased from the box, and worn suits carry the reception home. Book a pickup a week before the wedding for a proper press, and again in the week after.
Wedding suit dry cleaning and pressing before the day
A new suit is not a ready suit. Before it reaches you, someone has folded it, boxed it, shipped it and hung it on a rail. The creases across the back, the collapsed chest and the flattened lapel roll are all the evidence. However, a domestic iron will not fix these. It flattens the canvas and lining together and leaves shine on wool. It can also set a crease in the wrong place permanently. Wedding suit dry cleaning before the day is mostly about shape rather than dirt. Check the care label too; the Product Safety Australia guide to care labels explains what each symbol means.
Professional pressing reshapes the suit in three dimensions rather than flattening it. First, we steam the chest over a form so the canvas relaxes into its intended shape. Then we roll the lapel rather than press it flat. Finally, we set the trouser creases precisely down the centre of the leg. We also steam the seat so it hangs rather than clings. A suit finished this way sits the way its maker cut it to sit, which is the point of a wedding suit.
If whoever sold the suit adjusted it recently, allow it a few days on a hanger before the press. Our suit cleaning and pressing service handles wool, linen, cotton and blends. We also mention anything we notice at intake, so there is time to deal with it before the day. If the date is close, choose Rush (+100%) at booking. We also offer same-day dry cleaning subject to availability: book it and we confirm.
Groomsmen and the problem of five identical suits
Groomsmen usually buy their suits together, so the suits arrive together and crease together. Then each groomsman tends to try his on once and leave it in its bag, in five different flats across Sydney. Pressing them individually, a week before, means all five look the same in photographs. Otherwise, four look fine and one looks as though it slept in the car.
The easiest arrangement is a single pickup from wherever the group gathers the suits. Otherwise, we can collect from each groomsman’s address, whichever suits the group. Have the shirts cleaned and pressed at the same time. A wedding shirt is a white shirt under a spotlight, so collar and cuff soiling shows. Our shirt service returns them on hangers, ready.
What the day does to a suit
A wedding day is long, warm and busy. By the end of it, a suit has absorbed a full day of perspiration through the lining. It also carries a reception’s fragrance and food, at least one glass of something and whatever the dance floor offered. Most of this is invisible at midnight and all of it is a problem by December.
Perspiration is the quiet one. It is acidic, and it hides in the lining and underarms where nobody sees it. Over months, it also weakens wool fibres. Meanwhile, fragrance and hair product transfer to the collar and shoulders. Sugar from champagne dries clear and then browns. Suppose the suit goes back in its bag and you forget it until the next occasion. It will then come out with marks that were not there when it went in. Our note on perspiration and fine garments explains why speed matters.
Dry cleaning a wedding suit after the wedding: why a press is not enough
Once a suit has done a full wedding day, it needs cleaning, not simply another press. Pressing over perspiration sets it. Instead, cleaning lifts it out of the lining, along with fragrance, sunscreen and everything the reception left behind. Then the finish restores the shape. Luxe cleans with an eco-friendly solvent that is gentle on wool and lining alike. We also finish the suit with the same care as the pre-wedding press.
Clean the trousers and jacket together so the colour stays matched. Otherwise, a jacket cleaned alone can drift half a shade from its trousers over a couple of cleans. If there is a waistcoat, it goes in with them. Point out any stain at pickup so we can treat it first.
After wedding suit dry cleaning: keeping it for the next occasion
A wedding suit is often the best suit a man owns and it should last. After cleaning, hang it on a broad, shaped hanger in a breathable cover, with room around it in the wardrobe. Trousers hang full length or over a felted bar, never a wire hanger. The wardrobe should be cool and dry; a bathroom-adjacent cupboard in a Sydney summer is neither. Wedding suit dry cleaning followed by proper storage is what keeps a suit ready for years.
Stored properly, the suit is ready for the next wedding, the next milestone or a boardroom. By then, it needs a press and nothing more. For a wardrobe cared for this way all year, our private client service sets the rhythm. Our guide to refreshing suits for event season covers what to do between wears.
Wedding suit dry cleaning: your questions, answered
Should a brand-new suit be pressed before the wedding?
Yes. New suits arrive with box creases, a flattened chest and a lapel that has lost its roll. Professional pressing reshapes all of this. However, a domestic iron cannot, and it can leave shine or set creases in the wrong place.
Does the suit need cleaning after the wedding, or just a press?
Cleaning. A full wedding day leaves perspiration in the lining and fragrance on the collar. It also leaves sugar from champagne that browns over time. Pressing over these sets them; cleaning removes them before the finish.
Can you collect groomsmen’s suits from different addresses?
Yes. Each groomsman can book his own pickup, or we can collect the suits together from one address. Collection and delivery runs across 58 Sydney suburbs for a $25 flat fee.
How much does it cost to dry clean a wedding suit?
We price a two-piece suit as one garment, jacket and trousers together. However, a waistcoat, a linen or silk-blend cloth, or a stain that needs hand treatment changes the work. Indicative starting prices for suits are on our pricing page, and we confirm the figure after inspection. Pickup and delivery is $25 flat per booking. So five groomsmen’s suits from one address cost no more to collect than one.
